Hints From Heloise Creates Clean Homes Nationwide
Panic ensues when a glass of red wine crashes down onto your milky white carpet during a holiday social gathering with friends
. Frustration overwhelms you when your toddler decides to draw a scribble scene on your kitchen walls with his blue crayon. These and other household terrors wreak havoc in homes on a daily basis. Housewives and even some househusbands have sought solace in the wisdom of "Hints from Heloise" instead of being overcome by despair and worry. "Hints from Heloise" is a daily syndicated column that has been featured in publications throughout the country for more than 50 years, helping homeowners resolve household blunders and maintain a clean home.
The column, "Hints from Heloise" was developed by Heloise Bowles in February of 1959. It was designed to give housewives tips on keeping a clean home. "Hints from Heloise" was originally titled, "Readers Exchange", when first featured in the Honolulu Advertiser. King Features Syndicate soon picked up the column and changed its title to "Hints from Heloise," and started syndicating it nationwide. It took just a few years for the column to start running in more than 600 newspapers worldwide creating one of the most recognized brands in the domestic industry.
Heloise Bowels sadly died in 1977 from heart disease. Her daughter, also named Heloise, had been assisting her mother for a few years with contributing columns. She took over the column and continued to grow the brand of "Hints from Heloise" upon her mother's death. Heloise has noted that she grew up in a "Heloise household" where her mother was constantly testing out new home remedies and answering reader letters. She learned a lot about homemaking as a teen and even worked for her mother part-time during the summers between college sessions. Heloise was reluctant at first to take over the column after her mother's death; however, she felt it was a challenge worth taking on-at least for a little while. Heloise is still going strong.
Even 50 years later from its first publication, "Hints from Heloise" continues to be one of the most read columns in publication today about keeping a clean home. Heloise is an acclaimed author having penned 11 books as well as a monthly column for Good Housekeeping titled, "Heloise to the Rescue." She is also the host of a national radio show and travels around the country for speaking engagements. Heloise now operates one of the most well-known brands in the homemaking industry with fans the world over.
