Hip Resurfacing Or Hip Replacement, Which Is Right For You?

Hip surfacing and hip replacement treatments are two different procedures

, Fist you know what is difference between these treatments then you decide which you want to treat.

Hip replacement is a common process that has been used effectively in the last 60 years to relieve joint pain in those with degenerative diseases such as osteoporosis or who have committed some kind of damage to their hip. In total hip replacement as head of the femur and acetabulum (pelvic groove which fits the head of the femur) is replaced completely by parts, prosthetics and metal stem is inserted into the bone to join them.

Hip resurfacing on the other hand is a relatively recently developed procedure, which is replaced with a surface of the joints. The head of the femur, instead of being coated with cobalt-chromium metal cap and hip socket with the same cup. Total hip replacement surgery is very effective procedure and remedies for the elderly or adults diagnosed with arthritis of the hip. Hip resurfacing arthroplasty is a type of hip replacement, which replaces the painful joint surface, but removes far less bone than conventional total hip.

In choosing between the two techniques is important to know the risks with each procedure and to keep in mind that the procedure was developed. With hip replacement surgery, the most common complication is dislocation after surgery. The tissue around the compound takes about 8-12 weeks to heal completely, and during this time is easier for the head of the femur, to get away from the pelvic pocket. Patients recovering from total hip should be very careful not to put his foot in positions that could lead to dislocation. Therefore, the hip is not recommended for those who will return in a very active lifestyle.

Hip appearance on the other hand allows for shorter recovery time, and many patients who undergo this treatment are able to perform physically demanding feats such as running a marathon. It also removes less bone mass and therefore leaves no room for subsequent revision surgery if necessary. Hip resurfacing is an excellent alternative to hip replacement surgery for young active patients who may require multiple operations audit. However, one must have good bone quality to undergo this procedure. It is ideal for those with hip pain caused by arthritis, but no other joint or bone diseases like osteoporosis. Those whose bones have deteriorated or weak, are exposed to the metal cap of bones in bulk, or the bone is broken, and therefore not good candidates for hip resurfacing.

Patients should always consult their physician to determine whether they are candidates for hip replacement surgery or procedures, hip resurfacing.
