The Hip Hop music genre has been inducted into Pop culture in recent times and has become a major form of expression for people in the Afro American community. Hip hop in the true sense is more of an underground rebel movement which has borrowed influences from Jazz, Rock, Soul, Funk, pop, trance etc. Nobody knows exactly when Hip Hop began but many peg the year to be somewhere around the early 1970's in South Bronx section of New York City.

Basically Hip Hop is not just a musical genre in fact it is a sub-culture. The Hip hop artist is known for his distinct clothing styles and for the kind of lingo they use in their songs. DJ Kool Herc is considered to be the mastermind behind Hip Hop. It was he who mixed the rhythms and blues records to enthrall his audience. Other eager DJ artists took cue from DJ Kool Herc and then applied this technique when mixing beats.

Today Hip Hop beats have a mass appeal across the globe as big record labels across the globe try to cash in on this popularity. Hip hop instrumentals artists attract huge number of teenagers and youngsters at their concerts and hip songs and videos now dominate music radio stations and TV channels.

There are a number of films which actors portraying the lifestyles of hip hop artists which in turn helps in promoting the genre. Hip Hop beats have gone through some serious changes in the last few decades. From an underground form of music, Hip hop has now become a multibillion dollar business. The major change occurred in the last decade when the Hip sub genre such as Gangsta rap and west coast hip hop gained popularity.

Even though this genre has gained heavy criticism from both conservative and liberal quarters, today, you will find people sharing hip hop music songs on various video hosting sites on the internet. Hip Hop music artists such as Eminem, Rihanna, Akon, Snoop Dog, Kanye West, Beyonce and Jazz have gained notoriety for their talent.

Hip hop has now surpassed others forms of music as the younger generation like to jam to its beats.
