Hipaa Training

HIPAA Training is a program that is mandatory to all entities and individuals associated with the healthcare industry

. There are at times when as an individual or entity you end up handling protected health information (PHI) and this includes its storage, use, transmission or conversion of data from non-standard to standard formats among other aspects. Therefore, it does not matter at what level one handles this information as long as one plays a role in its handling one has to undergo this training. It is also important to consider the significance of taking the various levels of training which are relevant to your job role or description.

These levels can be categorized into two parts:

Beginners: This refers to the training program that focuses on training an entity, group, individual or organization on the HIPAA basics. The training will help you brainstorm on how you can make your organization or entity to be HIPAA compliant and more so, highlight some of the changes on the ARRAs HITECH act. In this case, the most recommendable HIPAA Training certification is the Certified HIPAA Privacy Associate (CHPA). This entry level certification is recommendable for students, the general workforce and new entrants to the industry. It is important to highlight that unless you have undergone the entry level certification you may not be qualified to take certification exams in the higher levels or more so, handle information requiring such expertise.

Professional or Organizational: People under this category are those who already understand the HIPAA compliance basics and wish to know more on being HIPAA compliant. In such instances, they will be required to take the Certified HIPAA Privacy Expert (CHPE), Certified HIPAA Security Expert or the Certified HIPAA Privacy Security Expert training programs. This normally depends on what ones job role entails. For instance, entities handling PHI at a higher level and their policies have to be in accordance to the HIPAA Security rules and regulations then CHSE certification maybe the best option, while those handling Privacy issues will need CHPE certification and those that deal with both of them will need the CHPSE certification. In other words, depending on your needs for meeting HIPAA compliance standards any of the certifications will be necessary. In HIPAA training, an entity or organization will also understand the risks involved in not being certified to handle PHI and the benefits that come along with it.

However, it is also important to understand that even though one handles the Privacy section of the HIPAA Compliance act it should not mean that the person is limited to CHPE one can also upgrade his or her security compliance skills and work on getting the CHPSE certification.
