It was built by King Amenhotep III and King Ramesses II as main venue for the Festival of Opet. The grand structure has several separate sections. Every section has specific purpose. Popular buildings in the city are Mosque of Abu'l Haggag, Court of Ramesses II, Pylons and the Court of Amenhotep II.

Another temple that you should be visiting while spending Luxor holidays is the Karnak Temple. The temple was built around 2000 years ago as a tribute to Khonsu, Mut and Theben triad of Amon. The temple covers an area of 200 acres. Amon enclosure in the temple spans over 60 acres. Another highlight of the temple is Hypostyle Hall featuring 134 columns.
