History Of As Seen On Tv Products

The History of As Seen on TV Products is very fascinating

. As a kid I remember watching TV on the weekends always being drawn to those crazy As Seen on TV commercials. The pocket fisherman, chop-o-matic and so many more products and still today they seem to rule the air.

Where did this products start? Who was the mad man behind this historical shopping craze. Well the answer... Ron Popeil! How can anyone 35 and older forget our Saturday morning friend. Inventor Ron Popeil and his family brought America the world of As Seen on TV!

Ron Popeil and his dad Samuel Popeil started the inventing 1930s and '40s. These were the guys like you see in the old westerns selling potions and remedies expect they were at the local fair or boardwalk. The Popeil's were not just great inventors, they were great salesmen. As hard as inventing is it is even harder to get your product out there and to get people to pay out of pocket. The Popeils had sales down to a science, just through the nuances of voice and gesture they could people to reach in their pocket and buy something they had no intention of buying. So not only were they the inventors of products and as seen on tv products they were the inventors of the first national sales pitch.

Samuel Popeil, the father of Ron Popeil, was an inventor who sold his inventions through major department stores and chain stores throughout the U.S. Ron would help his dad sell these products through in store demonstrations. His sole purpose on these sales trips was to persuade the managers and store owners that customers would purchase these unique inventions in large quantities. Ron used to drum up business for his father's company by showing how easy it was to sell his products. Ron did not just sell there products to companies and businesses he taught them how to sell his products. In the 1950s, TV was becoming a popular medium for advertising and the Popeil's saw an opportunity to pitch their products nation wide. He bought local time for a commercial for the Ronco Spray Gun and it was an enormous success. Ron then produced commercials for his father's Chop-O-Matic cutting device and then by the 1960's the Popeil's sold all there products exclusively online. If you really think about it in that day in age what they did was truly brilliant. They cut out the middle man and hooked a good percentage of the country with there aggressive sales techniques.

Well the Popeil's sold strong through the 70's and here we are in 2010 watching as seen on tv commercials and discovery channel Pitchmen. There is still so much we can learn about business from the Popei's. Long Live As Seen on TV.
