History of swinging and swingers

Swinging is the practice of swapping partners for better sexual experiences

. Previously this practice was known as wife swapping but has been called swinging since quite a few years now. Many people consider the practice of swinging to be quite controversial and debatable and it is often scrutinized and looked down upon by people who do not really understand the lifestyle, the principles and the reasons behind why people choose to do so.

For certain a person, swinging is a way of being promiscuous while still being married. Regardless of the opinions of people, swinging has been around for quite some time now and the history of swinging is quite interesting.

Although it is not very clear when exactly this practice first started, many believe that swinging has been practiced since the dawn of time. However, in US swinging began in full force in the 1950s. According to various sources, the practice first began in the US Air Force when the pilots and their wives first decide to try it. The pilots in the air force became quite close to each other and would often take care of each others families like their own.

It was not uncommon that pilots who left for work in the morning would never make it back home. Other pilots often took care of each others families then and many times formed a close bond with their wives too. Due to the conservative society back time, placing ads in newspapers was the only way to meet other swingers. It was only in 1957 that newspapers and media became aware of this new phenomenon and was given the term wife swapping.

In the 1960s, in Berkley the first ever swingers association had been set up to inform and educate people about the lifestyle of wife swapping. This organization had been called Sexual Freedom League and it had gained much popularity back then.

Today the case is different; there are many websites, clubs and organizations where information on swinging lifestyle is available. People have accepted this practice and more couples are today willing to try it themselves.

There hasnt been much study or research done on swingers and the practice of swinging for many different reasons, but according to one study done by a member of ABC news, more than four million swingers exist today. More than half of them reported that they were happier in their marriages after they switched to this lifestyle.

Although, having an extra marital relationship might pose several threats to a marriage with swinging the benefit is that both partners are aware of their actions and it even strengthens the bond between couples in most cases.

Swinging is not for everyone though, swingers would have to be really open minded and must be clear in their communications with their partners. If there is enough honesty and trust between partners, swinging can work for them. Over the years, swinging has been tried by millions of couples world wide. While it has not worked for some, it has proved to be a blessing for many.
