History of the Classic Car Club of America

History of the Classic Car Club of America

One of the most popular vintage car clubs is the Classic Car Club of America. At first, the cars included by the club were deemed too modern and that few people would be interested because the cars would prove to be worthless. Well, times have changed and the cars in the collection of the Classic Car Club of America being preserved are the finest collection in the world.

The non-profit membership corporation was said to have invented the term "Classic Cars". A classic car is a fine vehicle assembled between 1925 and 1948. It is generally built in Limited Editions or in limited quantities and has a high price tag when new. Cars built before 1925, similar to the 1925 full classics are also well-known for their superior design, high engineering standards and fine workmanship. Other factors to consider if a car is to be considered classic are the automatic lubrication systems, power clutch, power brakes and engine displacement. Cars falling in those mentioned categories are of interest to the Classic Car Club of America.

The organization was founded when car enthusiasts who owned vintage Cadillacs and similar models were deemed not eligible to participate by the oldest organization dedicated to cars: the Antique Automobile Club of America. These cars were classified as "Tow Cars". In their minds, the proper term to use was "classic" and a new organization was to be formed.

Classic Car Club of America was born in March of 1952. At the infancy of the club, there was a modest membership of twenty.. This changed when Herb Shriner invited the club to exhibit at the International Motor Sport Show. After the exhibit, 75 more car enthusiasts signed up. Half a year after the club started, the club boasted more than 200 members.

The club's first show was held at Washington's State Park in New Jersey and is entitled "The Grand Classic". Their first tour began that August where the club was a guest to the Packard Motor Company. The classics were displayed on the famous Packard proving ground track. Today, there are members who joined even outside the country. More than 5,000 members have joined the club to date. The Classic Car Club of America is everywhere where classic cars are honored and celebrated.
