Hitting a draw in golf is when your ball flies from right to left, avoiding obstacles that are in the way. In order to go about hitting a draw you should visualize the ball flight that you need. Once you have decided upon a flight path, you will have a target. This means that you will need to adjust your body alignment and stance according to your target.
When you are hitting a draw you will need to get an anticlockwise spin on your ball. In order to achieve this goal you will need to make contact with a closed club face. The best club that you could use for this move is a six or seven iron as the loft will be reduced.
When you are ready to swing, you will need to have a strong grip on your club. Both your hands should be placed clockwise on the club. Your thumbs should be right of the center line. When you look down at your hands and club, you will be able to see more of the back of your left hand and less of the back of your right hand than you usually see. Keep in mind that the club face should be closed and you should position the ball towards the middle of your stance. Ideally your feet and body will aim towards the right. The ball will land with an overspin which will cause more run. You will need to allow for this.
When you are attempting to make this move, you should try to make your backswing more rounded so that it will travel on an inside curve. Ideally your hands and forearms will rotate through the impact. This swing will need to be smooth and unhurried. At the point of impact the club face should be slightly closed in order to hit a draw.
As the draw is a "feel" shot, it is not easy. You need to be realistic and only attempt to make shots that you are feeling confident about. Like everything in life, practice makes perfect when it comes to the draw shot.
The best place to practice this shot is at the driving range. If you are having trouble making the shot after significant practice you may want to consider getting one or two private lessons. Sometimes it is easier to have someone point out what you are doing wrong so that you can correct it. In order to make this shot you will need to have patience and practice on a regular basis.
