Hiv Reservoirs And Strategies To Control Or Cure
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is the agent that leads on to because the dreaded acquire immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS)
. This is a disease that is currently threatening to reduce the population of the world and as claimed by some scientist that if not addressed properly will lead to the extinction of human race. As a result of this many steps are taken by various countries towards HIV eradication. Yet with all that is being done the numbers of those living with HIV continually increase.
The Human Immunodeficiency Virus has been identified and place into two types by scientist. These two are HIV-1 and HIV-2. The former has being identified as the primary cause of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome that has plague many part of the world and resulted to the loss of lives. The HIV-2 is found commonly in West Africa. The need to address this issue has led to many nongovernmental organisation organising HIV workshop to educate the people about how to the virus is being spread around. Also emphasis is laid on preventive measures that can be applied to escape it.
Today we find governments collaborating and merging efforts with NGO to find HIV reservoirs and cure strategies. Drugs have being developed that have the capability of suppressing the human immunodeficiency virus. What these drugs do is primarily focus on different stages of the development of this virus. This process is referred to as antiretroviral therapy. As for a permanent HIV cure, there is no known drug or treatment today that can make this virus disappear entirely. All that can be done is to suppress the virus from replicating and help the immune system withstand the destruction that this virus poses at it.
The drugs that are used to suppress the HIV cycle can be placed into four classes. The HIV persistence makes it necessary for anyone living with HIV to live and continue these drugs as prescribed by the physician. The drugs attempt to block the HIV from the exponential rate at which it increases. The drugs also at a stage having succeeded in blocking the HIV, ends up forming new HIV forms that will not be able to infect the cells in the body that have not being affected by HIV. All these are to ensure that the HIV does not destroy the immune system and lead to acquire immunodeficiency syndrome.
The HIV reservoirs cannot be fully stopped totally from replicating this virus. For someone living with HIV it is imperative that the individual still follow the necessary and prescribed prevention and control that has been stipulated for those not living with HIV. With the rate of increase, it has become necessary that every human play a vital part in ensuring that the virus does not spread. This is necessary to ensure this generation become extinct. We should know that it is a collective responsibility.
