When we talk about the utility of the two protective clothing, both the girdle and pants provide protection from falls and errant slap shots. Hockey pants seem to provide more protection based upon the padding that is included in the pant. Girdles also seem to be worn more for in-line hockey, but that doesn't mean you can't wear one for ice hockey. It all comes down to a matter of preference. If you child likes things to be worn tighter then go with the girdle, it they like the freedom of a loose pair of pants/shorts then go with the hockey pant. Most kids like to wear pants more than a girdle.

When you choose the equipment for your children, try to ask the advice of your children. It is your children who wear the hockey equipment like NHL jerseys, hockey girdle, or helmet. You need to pay attention to the condition of the equipment. The protective gear should go through regular maintenance.
