It is vital for a hockey athlete to undergo hockey practice drills to better prepare him for the actual game. As we all know, hockey is a fast-paced sport and involves highly physical game. These practice drills are intended to develop the skills and endurance of players. In the following paragraph well talk about a few practice drills that are performed by athletes to improve their fitness and performance on the rink.
The drills for forwards are intended to develop forward skills in the offensive zone. They'll be practicing movements of feet while passing, receiving and shooting. These are done by placing a pile of plucks in each corner and group the forwards together in one corner. This practice then develops the skills of athletes in passing, receiving and shooting. Another drill is for goalies but can also work for forwards because they can work on scoring from the rebounds. Shooters will shoot plucks at the goalie to score from a rebound. This will test the skill of the goalie to withstand the shots.
The neutral zone drills are designed to work on creating some offense out of a neutral zone transition. This drill will develop the ability of the athletes to maneuver a defense and able to score a shot. This may sound complicated but when you are there performing it will be much easier.
The next drill focuses on defensive zone coverage and back checking. The process in which this is carried through is discussed thoroughly and in more detail in the practice drills manual that you'll be using. Often times there are diagrams that accompany this method to fully understand how these drills are done. In hockey practice drills are very helpful to improve the skills of an athlete.
