Firstly, you need to bet aggressively. Betting with aggression is the simplest and easiest way to increase your wins playing poker. This is for the simple reason that when you bet out you can win in an additional way your opponent can fold.

Second, bet consistently. Even if you are betting out regularly, if you are betting small bets when you have bad cards and big bets when you have good cards, well, people are going to see through you like a piece of glass.

Don't be afraid to come over the top of people. If you bet out, and they raise you, you don't necessarily have to call. You can come over the top of them hard and this is often enough to make them back down. Confidence is key.

That goes in line with a continuation bet. When you bet hard pre-flop and the flop comes and doesn't help you at all, you can make another strong bet (even though you have nothing) and you may take the pot there and then. This is called a continuation bet.
