Historically Speaking
There are many legends that do the rounds regarding the history of Sarahan. The Rampur rajas of Bushahr, who once ruled Kinnaur, made Sarahan their intermediary summer capital when they left Kamru in the Sangla Valley and before Rampur Bushahr became the new capital.

There is not much scope for shopping in this small hamlet other than some interesting puja equipment for worship and trinkets of jewellery.

Dussehra is celebrated in a grand way at both the Bhimakali Temple and in the village of Sarahan, and villagers from around come in droves to take part in the celebrations. So while this is a festive time with animal sacrifice playing a big role in the festivities, it is crowded and the
animal slaying is definitely not for the faint hearted.

Sights
The Bhimakali Temple , reputed to be at least 800 years old, is dedicated to Goddess Durga or Bhimakali and is considered one of the significant Shakti Peeths of Shaivite Hindus. The temple is Tibetan in its architectural style, with Buddhist and Hindu influences and bronze statues of both
religions in the shrines. It has slanted slate roofs, golden towers, pagodas and a carved silver door among a host of wooden beams and intricate carvings. While in Sarahan, make a trip to the Kamru fort, Chitkul valley and Sangla valley .

The airport closest to Sarahan is Jubbarhatti in Shimla. From Shimla, Sarahan is located at a distance of 175-kms and this distance can be covered by bus or one can hire a private taxi to go to Sarahan.

Shimla is the nearest railhead. From Shimla, taxis or jeeps can be hired and a bus service is also available to make the 6-hour journey to Sarahan.

One can drive to Sarahan via Shimla. Sarahan is a 6 hour drive from Shimla and the route to follow is NH - 22 upto Jeori, from where the road branches off towards Sarahan.
Best time to Visit
The months of March to June and September to October are delightful in Sarahan. Summer is cool, but daytime temperatures can go up to 32C, while the winter is chilly with snow.

Sarahan - this scenic valley extends along the Bhaba river. Follow Link road to valley originates at Wangtu. It has a beautiful landscape, reservoir lake, alpine meadows and is best famous for trek route to Pin Valley in Spiti. Sangla Valley casts a spell and ensnares the visitor in her mesh. The scenic beauty of the surrounding apple orchards, flower filled meadows and towering mountains is unparalleled. Kamru Fort lies at a distance of 2 km from Sangla and warrants a visit. The architecture of the fort is reminiscent of the Bhimkali temple complex in Sarahan. Chitkul is the last village of the Sangla valley and the area is renowned for its saffron farms and the Baspa rivers rushing waters is an excellent place for trout fishing.
