Hollywood Vs. Brazilian Bikini Waxing

Have you been thinking about trying bikini waxing for yourself? If so, there are a few things you should be aware of before proceeding.

First, you really should take some kind of mild painkiller or drink a shot of brandy about 30 minutes before a bikini wax. This is highly recommended because the treatment is rather painful.

I have had clients that screamed throughout a Hollywood or Brazilian bikini wax. To be fair, I have to say that I have had plenty of female clients lie quietly through the whole procedure, apparently in no pain whatsoever. It seems that every person has their own pain threshold.

No matter what your particular situation is, you have to feel relaxed and comfortable at the salon you choose for a bikini wax procedure.

Some clients that come to our salon only trust specific staff members and refuse to try another staff member if the one they want is not available. Because a bikini wax is very personal, this attitude is understandable. For example, if you are having a "Hollywood" wax done you will likely be asked to remove your slacks or skirt. It's easier to reach more difficult areas if you're exposed from the waist down. It may even be necessary for you to get on your knees or lift your legs.

There are three different types of bikini waxing procedures. We're going to look at each of them so you can decide which one is best for you.

Bikini Line

This procedure is the least extreme of the three types of bikini waxes. Any pubic hair that is covered while wearing a bikini is left untouched. However, any straggling hairs on each side are removed. When you wear a bikini, no hair is visible.

Brazilian Bikini

The Brazilian bikini wax is an extreme form of waxing and very popular. This procedure involves removing nearly all the pubic hair from the bikini area. Only a thin strip of hair, right about the vulva is left. This hair that remains is often called the "landing strip".

It is recommended that any hair that will be removed be approximately of an inch long. If the hair is longer than this, the procedure can be even more painful and if it's shorter, the wax might no hold well.

This kind of bikini wax usually takes about 30-45 minutes and lasts from 2-4 weeks. This means monthly maintenance is required.

You need to be fully aware of the fact that a Brazilian bikini wax is a very painful procedure. For this reason, I strongly recommend taking a painkiller of some kind about 30 minutes before the procedure, particularly is you have a low threshold for pain.

Hollywood Bikini Waxing

This type of bikini wax is very extreme as it involves removing all the pubic hairs from both the front and middle as well as those hairs all the way back, toward your rear. Plainly put, you won't have a bit of genital hair left. This method is often referred to as a "full Brazilian". This treatment is one the most popular in my salon. A hot wax treatment usually costs about twice as much as the regular, but it delays the regrowth of the hair.

Regardless of the type of bikini waxing you choose, it will last for about 4 weeks. This is a procedure that will have to be done regularly unless you opt for the more permanent, laser hair removal solution.
