Have you ever wondered what the appeal of home based jobs really is?

The truth of the matter is that there are different reasons for different people that this is an attractive way to work. If you sit down and really think about it long enough you are sure to find plenty of reasons that working from home might be attractive to you as well. Just remember that not everyone has what it takes to work from home no matter how tempting it might be.

What are some of the reasons that many people seek home based jobs?

1) They value privacy. Some people are never really able to handle the "fish bowl" atmosphere of many of the newer open workspaces. Cubicle working environments might be great from the company point of view but many workers really resent the open book it forces them to be. Working from home eliminates the feeling that all eyes are on you and that nothing is really private. In fact, if you are home alone for the majority of the time you're working from home you might enjoy a little too much privacy (if there can be such a thing).

2) Saves money. While it's true that some work at home positions pay less than comparable office positions it is also true that it costs less, on average, to work from home than it does to commute. Working from home eliminates the need for the professional wardrobe. You can invest all your wardrobe money into comfy PJs and fuzzy slippers and still come out ahead. You also won't spend nearly as much on the daily commute (though your home coffee bill might increase ever so slightly). Other ways you'll save money is by missing out on all those impromptu (and expensive) lunches away from the office and if you can throw something in the slow cooker during your lunch break you can also cut costs on dinners out after a long day at the office.

3) No gossip. One of the best things about working from home is that there is no one to gossip about and no one to gossip to. You aren't expected to gossip about your coworkers when you work at home and you don't have to listen to an endless line of gossip about others while secretly wondering what they have to say about you when you aren't around. You'd be surprised what a load off the mind this is for a lot of people who are fed up with office politics and maneuvering.

4) Less stress. Not only are you eliminating many potential money concerns, privacy concern, and gossip issues but you are also flying a little under the company radar when you aren't constantly barraged with the hurry up and get it done atmosphere that is pervasive in many larger workplaces. Combine that with the absence of a stressful daily commute and you have plenty to cheer about with a home based job.
