You had several years saving for your future home

This is not how to find the building contractor - it is what to look for in this home builder? Although I would say that the price matters, this should not be among the priorities. You will find that in talking with the contractors, they can give you different quotations. But this is not the gauge -not the lowest! Never sacrifice the price for experience.

I guess, if I were to build my home, the first qualification I will research on is experience. How many houses have he built? How long is this contractor been in home-building business? What is the feedback about him? Although the number of years in the business counts, this again is not my criterion of having experience. You can be a new contractor - say only 5 years but you have already built hundreds unceasingly. You may be a contractor for 20 years yet the building projects are very few and each contract comes at a very long interval.

Each builder has his own signature style and design. You have to examine the different houses this contractor has built. Does his style jibe with your conceptualized dream home? Do your styles match? No matter what design you specify on this home builder, chances are, his style will eventually come out. And this will be your great problem especially when construction has already begun. And worst - you hate the style!

How does this contractor deal with his clients? Does he have an attitude problem? You and your contractor must meet eye to eye and if you think you have lots of differences then maybe you can never establish rapport between you. This is again big problem when construction begins. How can you jointly discuss the changes should there be one?

You are building your home - a nest for your loved ones where you will put on many memories, This should already project a pleasant atmosphere - even from the beginning of construction. When construction begins, you would not want to leave everything on him. You will from time to time go to the site to find the progress or development. These visits will be instances where you can discuss with the builder. So if there is attitude problem between you, how will you talk with him?

There will be answers to your question in mind about finding the right contractor. First, try to log on the contractor's website. There will be photographs of his previous projects; there will be feedbacks, testimonials and comments. Study these. Take time to go out of your way, talk to the previous clients. If possible visit previous homes he has built. The homeowners will surely be very accommodating to show you around their homes.

Your home is a big investment - not only with your money but with your love, time and effort. Your family will also get involved so - try to find one builder who has the above qualifications. Let price issue come in later - anyway you can specify your budget to the chosen contractor.
