Family members should let loved ones know that they want to keep their best interests in mind and listen openly to them. They need to let aging loved ones know they are willing to stand up for their health and well-being. This approach conveys concern for their health without putting them on the defensive.

3)Respect Others - No one likes to feel patronized or insulted. When dealing with elderly loved ones, express how much you care and try to imagine what the situation is like for them. When working with a professional elderly care or home care service, remember that the staff wants to work as a team with the client and family.

4)Be Specific - Family caregivers should always clearly state their feelings on health and aging issues when they talk with family members or a home care service and not leave any chance that they might make incorrect assumptions. Clarity respects others' right to agree or disagree and allows them to understand others' positions so all involved can work toward a solution or compromise.

These steps help facilitate discussions that lead to the best solution for everyone. Remember, the goal is to ensure your loved ones are able to live comfortably and safely in a manner that is best for them. By working together and discussing things openly, a solution can be found that provides them with lifestyle, freedom, privacy, and comfort they deserve and gives the family peace of mind knowing their needs are covered.
