Home Chemical Peeling--What You Need to Know

If you're thinking about home chemical peeling you want to weigh the pros and cons. On the one hand, you want softer, smoother skin without a high price tag. On the other hand, this is acid you're dealing with and if you're not careful you could really do some serious damage to your skin.

Side effects include redness and irritation to chemical burns! Proceed with caution.

A quick search online shows the wide range of at home peels available to you.

A Superficial Peel

The safest ones are the lightest. These glycolic peels can remove surface lines and generally deep clean your face. Over the counter glycolic peels have between 3 and 10% acidity which many doctors say is too little to make much difference to your skin.

By comparison, in office treatments use 50% or more acidity. Which will certainly have a more dramatic effect on your appearance!

A Deeper Peel

I discovered TCA peels being sold online. These are a medium grade peel and the risks are much higherespecially for home use.

If you've never had a peel before I'd err on the side of caution if you're stepping into the home chemical peeling arena. Start with a lighter peel. If you're pregnant or use Retin-A then skip the peel. You wouldn't want to expose your baby to these chemicals and Retin-A can make your skin more sensitive, i.e., can make chemical burns more possible.

Any peel will leave your skin red and dry for a few days. You may shed skin cells for 3-5 days afterwards and you'll be hypersensitive to the sun so wear sunblock to protect your skin.

While home chemical peeling can reduce light wrinkles and fade brown spots, you can also do these things with good skincare.

Boost Your Collagen With Honey

For example, did you know you could boost your collagen cells with ingredients like active manuka honey? Scientists at New Zealand's Waikato University found this special honey is a powerful age fighting ingredient. It's proven to increase your collagen cells so your skin looks firmer and younger plus it's an excellent moisturizer.

Might be a good thing to apply skincare with this honey after your home chemical peeling session! You can put it in the refrigerator for an extra cool boost to calm your inflamed skin.

I've also discovered a terrific ingredient to fade age spots you can find mixed with this honey. To learn more about these and other anti aging secrets, please visit my website where I share my research.
