After some time, the paint on your wall is likely to either begin to fade or peel. At this point almost all you will be able to do is to get a paint scraper and scrape as much of the paint off as you can. If your home is very old, it is conceivable that you may have numerous coats of paint underneath. This can be a more difficult job if the previous paint was an oil-based paint. After you're done scraping the paint off the walls, you'll either need to putty holes in the wall if it's wood or spackle if it is drywall then sand it down. Upon having completed this, wash off the dust and let it dry up. You might want to let it sit for 24 hours before you start painting.

Aged homes may have problems with moisture build-up. When there is unwanted condensation, a leak, or dampness building-up, the result will also be cracking paint. Even though common in bathrooms, this concern can also occur in other parts of the home. Sometimes your home will have a leak, or bushes that are too close. If it's inside of the house, you will need to make a solution that is one part bleach and three parts water to remove the paint and kill the mildew. If it is on the outside of the home, simply use the solution that is included with a pressure washer.

An additional problem that needs a painter, is when the color is fading, which normally happens on the exterior. It could happen inside, but it is basically caused when exposed to the hot sun. In order to avoid fading, don't employ bright or bold colors like red. If you'd like colors that stand out, try ones that are generally golden or with a ruddy tone.

To help keep your residence looking nice, don't ever let it get into that bad of shape. You must keep it painted every couple of years, and quickly fix any leaks to get rid of the moisture.
