Home Remedies That Save Money And Time
When you're a busy mother, you might not have time to go to the doctor
. With the state of health care these days, you might not be able to afford the cost of a doctor's visit, even if you do have the time to get there! Mothers everywhere are turning to home remedies to take care of the most basic ailments and avoid the high bills of medical care.
Here are a few home remedies that have been tried and proven by mothers like you:
Yeast Infections. There are many treatments available over the counter for yeast infections, but they are all rather expensive, and some of them don't seem to work. A tried and true home remedy is a simple, inexpensive bottle of hydrogen peroxide! Mix one teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide with a cup of water and use it once a day until your symptoms disappear.
Sinus Pain and Pressure. Steam is the key to curing sinus problems. Stand in a hot shower and breathe in the steam, or create a "steam tent" - place drops of eucalyptus oil into a pot of steaming water. Carefully lean over the pot and cover your head with a towel, so that the vapors are directed toward your face. Breathe as deeply as you can until the water cools.
Toothache. Many mothers suffer with tooth problems because they don't have dental insurance and even if they do, it might not be enough to cover the procedures they need. Some home remedies for toothaches include warm compresses (heat up a wet towel in the microwave for a few seconds). A salt water and garlic gargle will temporarily help the pain. Crushed cloves placed on the tooth can provide some relief as well.
Urinary Tract Infection. If you have a UTI, the old advice about drinking cranberry juice is definitely worth a shot. The more you drink, the more you flush out your kidneys and bladder, and the better your will feel. However, if that doesn't work, there are now UTI medications available over the counter, so you can avoid that pricey trip to the doctor.
There are times when you should definitely see your doctor. If you have symptoms that are new and seem to have no cause, if your symptoms get worse no matter what you try, and if you start to run a high fever, it's time to get medical attention. If you can't afford to visit the doctor, look for a free clinic near you, or visit your hospital emergency room and explain the situation. Many hospitals will set you up on a payment plan to make sure you get the help you need.
A final word of advice: To keep yourself healthy and head off problems before they start, be sure to always drink plenty of water, eat lots of fruits and vegetables, and wash your hands frequently. If you can afford regular checkups at the health clinic, get them! Most clinics work on a sliding scale and will only charge what you can actually afford. As with anything else in life, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
