My excitement over the thought of entering university and living away from home for
the first time was dampened when I saw four beds in my dormitory room. I thought I had a room to myself.
Sharing a room with other unknown people was something new. I was preparing myself for the worst in case this living condition would not work out. When I met my roommates, I realized that I was just being pessimistic.
Five days afterwards, I lost my wristwatch. I did not tell them for fear that I may have simply misplaced it. I had no proof that the culprit was even among my roommates.
The following week, I lost my calculator. I would hate to blame anyone but I thought it was time to get a home security camera. My parents have installed surveillance systems back home and they worked. I had one secretly put in the room's wall clock since it covered the entire room.
I had the chance to tell my roommates about the losses when we were all present one night. They, too, revealed that some of their things have been disappearing and each one was suspecting the rest.
I confessed the home security camera I hid and everyone else joined in to say that she had secretly installed a home security camera in the room. One girl said she was so bent on catching the thief who got her mobile phone that she got a special monitoring device.
The dormitory's manager was arrested after he was positively identified in the recordings from our surveillance systems. After an agreement was reached among the dormitory residents, dome cameras were mounted in each hallway.
I have detached my home security camera from the wall clock and would give it to my sister who would be a freshman next term. As for the other three cameras inside the room? They are still recording our every move.
