Unless you've been living in a cave somewhere or under a rock you can't help but notice all the commercials for home security

. Home security is a huge business these days. One of the sad reasons for that is because homeowners don't pay much attention to home security until they've had a problem. Burglars know that homeowners, the vast majority of them anyhow, leave their doors and windows unsecured. Over sixty percent to be exact! That is like a written invitation to be a victim.

Many homeowners can take some preemptive steps to improve their home security by locking their doors and windows. They can opt to start or join a local neighborhood watch program which is very effective and it's free. Or they can place a sign in their front yard warning of a vicious guard dog. All these things are free. And believe it or not they're very effective.

When the bad guys go looking for a target, which is called 'casing' a neighborhood, they look for homes that do not offer any outward signs of resistance. Police tell us that the most effective way to prevent home burglary is with a home security surveillance camera. When the bad guys see a security camera outside a home they make a decision to hit someone else not you.
