Home Staging Accreditation Pros & Cons

Home Staging Accreditation Pros & Cons

Home Staging Accreditation Pros & Cons

Some people wonder whathome staging is all about. Others wonder where the words re-designer or re-decorator came from, I mean are those even in the dictionary? It boggles the mind, doesn't it? I'll leave you with that thought.

If you surf for home staging or home re-decorating on the net you will get thousands of results, from different organizations (i.e. business owners, design institutes, others) offering oneof three things:

Organizations luring you into why you should become an accredited professional.

Business owners offering their home staging and re-decorating services.

One offs, trying to sell you their book full of all the home staging secrets, and why you don't need to obtain an accreditation if you know you have an eye for design.

Does this sound familiar? Of course it does! Try it out if you haven't. The truth is, it is great if you have an eye for design, and can easily color coordinate. It is even greater, if you know how to properly arrange furniture. But, the fact is, when you first meet your potential clients in order to sell your product, you must know and sound like you know what you're talking about. If you don't, no matter how awesome you are at creating spaces, you will be wasting your time and your potential client's time.

Clients will have questions, andyou may even encounter some that know about design, and what do you do if you can't properly articulate an answerthatshould be simple had you known the right"lingo" (for lack of a better word) to use?

One of the pros about a Home Staging Accreditation is having something to default back to, that allows you to say you are an Accredited Professional. If ever asked, you will be comfortable in saying so, and it will automatically build trust in your potential clients that you are no "amateur". If you are not accredited, but would like to be, check out the various organizations out there, and research them to ensure they have been in business for a while, and that they have a good reputation. The cost willvary depending on the organization you pick, but it runs no less than $900.If you are interested, check out: Decorate-Redecorate.com, QC Design School, StagedHomes.com, and Home Staging Resource.

I have looked into all four, and they seem pretty decent. I've ordered a few things from Decorate-Redecorate, and I have no complaints at all. I have also looked at Staging Diva, attended a free conference call, and I'm sorry to say that I amnot too convinced there. I think you can get much more for you moneyfrom Decorate-Redecorate, than you will from Staging Diva.

One of the cons at not having a home stagingaccreditation is if you're asked about it, unless you have an interior design degree, what will you say? Additionally, how will you build rapport and let your potential clients know they're in good hands and can trust you? Will you be able to talk about line, form and space?Light? Color value? Pattern and texture? Balance, proportion, unity, and scale?

When you walk intoa potential client's home, will you be able to quickly tell what their decorating style is?Will you be able to tellcountry vs. traditional vs. eclectic vs. casual vs. contemporary?

These are things to think about to makesure you are well versed in the topics that may come upduring a consult with a client.
