Home cleaning – making the most of limited time
Home cleaning making the most of limited time
These days, most households do not have one person responsible for doing the chores. We tend to share duties such as cleaning, tidying, gardening, decorating and cooking between us. Unfortunately, home cleaning is most people's least favourite task, and often gets left the longest! Having a clean home, though, makes life a lot more comfortable and once you get into the habit it's easy to tidy, sort and clean things. You just need a little discipline (and perhaps a little help!). Try these tips:
Assign each room to a member of the family, and have everyone agree to clean their' room once a week (or fortnight, or month if appropriate). If there are only two of you, and four rooms, each room might only get cleaned once every couple of weeks but you'll find that taking responsibility for a room makes most people keep things tidy and clean in the interim period as well!
Restrict your home cleaning activities to a particular day. It doesn't need to be the same day each week, but pick one and make sure all your other chores are done during non-cleaning days. Your family might like to do the cleaning all together on the same day, or it might work better for each family member to choose a different day. It doesn't matter much, as long as it happens regularly!
Tidy the room first, if it isn't already tidy, and work from one corner or side to the other, for each task in turn. Do the home cleaning chores in order; dust from the top of the room down (don't forget lamp shades), as all the dust will then fall to the floor. Next, clean (dust or wipe) inside the cupboards. Then, tackle any surfaces that need scrubbing or wiping, such as bathroom enamel surfaces and kitchen counters. Once all these are done, carpet cleaning, using a vacuum cleaner, or hard floor cleaning with a brush/broom and mop will pick up all the dust and dirt that you've dislodged from everywhere else. However, carpet cleaning itself throws up some dust, so go back to shelves, tables, etc. that need polishing. This will leave your room looking thoroughly spick and span!
One way of ensuring really good results from your home cleaning is to get a carpet cleaning company to visit once or twice a year. Having your carpet cleaned professionally makes a huge difference to the way your home looks, and will encourage you to do the rest of your home cleaning chores (if your carpet looks grubby, no matter how much home cleaning you indulge in, the place will never look truly clean). Carpet cleaning by professionals is quick and effective these days, and doesn't cost the earth and not only will it improve the look of your carpet but also help keep it in good condition, so making it last longer. You'll be surprised how good even an old, worn carpet can look after a professional carpet cleaning company has done its stuff!
