Apply Ice To Numb The Pain and Reduce Inflammation
Ice has been used by many people for several centuries now as a numbing agent and can help to reduce inflammation. The numbing sensation from the guidance dulls the feelings in your nerves in the injured area to help reduce the pain. While it's only a temporary solution for relief from the pain before risking damage by letting it get to cold many people will alternate applying it, and then taking it off before reapplying it again and thus extending the time. During the first 48 hours or so immediately after injuring yourself you should apply ice, but after that you should alternate cold and heat to help with the circulation of the injured area and help it to heal faster. Many people find that it can be a perfect remedy for bruises, bumps and other minor injuries. You can also use packaged frozen foods if you run out of ice. Raising the injured area about the heart (when possible) and using a bandage to compress the area also helps.
Oatmeal Salve
Individuals that suffer from joint problems, tendinitis or arthritis take medication daily to help to deal with the pain. Some people use an oatmeal salve to help massage the painful area to help with the discomfort that the pain causes.
What you do is add 2 cups of oats to 1 cup of water, then microwave the mixture until warm. Scoop some from this mixture then rub it on the affected areas using small, circular motions. The warmth from the oatmeal salve will be retained as you apply it to your aching joints or injured area.
The warmth from the heated oatmeal gives warmth and can relieve the pressure in your joints and help with the blood's circulation, the massaging motion will help to loosen the muscles and tendons around the area that's giving you trouble. Leave it on for as long as you want then wash it off when you're done with water. For pain relief for inflamation related conditions, you can add two teaspoons of yarrow, which may be purchased at your local health food store.
Alcohol
While alcohol can't be usually associated with the idea of helping to relieve pain, this could be valuable when dealing with a toothache. More than numbing the painful feeling experienced within the mouth, the alcohol can often destroy any infection present. You can drink hard liquors like whiskey, and swish at least 3 tablespoons inside your mouth for about a minute. If you do not have alcohol available, you can also try pure vanilla extract.
From time to time health professionals and physical therapists may suggest doing some form of physical activity such as yoga which might help loosen up the muscles and help with pain relief. However, if the discomfort is chronic you should seek the advice of a medical professional such as your physician as it might be a warning signal for a severe health condition or problem.
