Home vegetable garden-How to grow the best tasting organic vegetables

A home vegetable garden has many great plus points such as saving you a ton of money, giving you a worthwhile hobby, a great way of spending family time and of course amazing tasting vegatation. I got my first home vegetable garden up and running about 10 years ago and have not looked back since and with food prices always rising I am glad that I did.

When you first get started it is best to start with a small plot and an easy to grow vegetable such as the good old potatoe to get you into the swing of it. I still remember when I looked in the veg cupboard and saw a potatoe with some roots on it and said to my kids "come on lets grow our own potatoes". They were made up when they had grown and said they were the best they had ever tasted, that was it I now grow tomatoes, leeks and carrots among many other things.

Growing your own organic veg is simple, you need to plant them where they get plenty of sun light, use a good quality soil and keep them well but not over watered. There is no secret, just a bit of hard work now and again in the form of weeding and harvesting.

Now my home vegetable garden is on steroids (not literally) thanks to a quite recent breakthrough called aquaponics. This is a natural system where instead of having filters in the fish tank the water is pumped through some netted plant pots to be cleaned and then returned to the fish tank. This "dirty" fish water contains every single nutriant needed for your vegetables to grow, so there is no need for any chemicals or plant food.

The great thing about aquaponics is that your vegetables grow at least 2 times faster and you need less space for your crops because you can have the pots stacked up on shelves, which makes harvesting less of a chore as there is less bending down.

If you think it sounds hard to set up an aquaponics system for a home vegetable garden then you are mistaken. All you need is a fish tank of freshwater fish or gold fish which are very hardy and dead easy to keep, some netted pots and a few lengths of piping. Aquaponics takes all the hard work out of home vegetable gardening while giving better crops, give it a try you will never look back.
