Homemade Costumes Idea
Whether a costume is needed for Halloween, a dress-up party
, or just for fun, commercially made costumes can be expensive, ill-fitting, and cheaply made. With some imagination, creativity and a little effort, a fun and interesting costume idea can be created out of clothing and objects found around the house.
Children's costumes should be comfortable, warm and well-fitted. Children typically do not like having anything covering their eyes, so be careful with masks and funny glasses. While some children love to dress up, they tend to be finicky so avoid spending too much money on costumes for specific events, as they child may inexplicably choose not to wear it. Simple costumes are best, with a funny hat, warm, comfortable clothing (or the option to wear warm clothing underneath) and well-fitting shoes.
Children's Costumes
Costumes for children can be simple or complicated, and should be something that the child is interested in wearing. Cowboy outfits are popular, as it includes jeans, a warm shirt, a cowboy hat and boots. A bandana and lasso can be included as well. Other fast and comfortable outfits for boys include a fireman (just add a hat and a slicker), police officer (dress in navy and carry a badge) and a construction worker (carry a toolbox and wear a hardhat). Easy cat outfits for work for boys and girls, using a black turtleneck and leggings, and a set of cat ears. Face paint to make a cat nose and whiskers can complete the outfit. Other easy, comfortable outfits for girls include Miss America (gown, tiara, sash), fairy (tutu and wings) and dancer (ballet shoes, leotard, tutu).
Adult Costumes
Commercially made adult costumes are rarely appropriate for a work or family environment, and can be quite ill-fitting and one-size-fits all. Adults can choose a fun, silly or serious costume from their closets, and with things around the house and makeup or face paint, an original style can be created.
Some fun and original adult costumes are a weatherman or woman, with a suit and umbrella), a leprechaun (wearing all green, with green makeup), and a hippie in 1960s tie-dyed garb. As with children, cowboy themes are fun and easy, as are black cats, mummies (wrap the body in bandages) or couples costumes like Adam and Eve or Fred and Wilma.
Adults and children can use simple, interesting and fun outfits that they fashion from common objects and clothing. A fun and innovative Halloween, fancy-dress or playtime costume idea can be inspired by interests and creative use of everyday things.
