Homemade Party Favors: 4th Of July Rice Crispy Treats

The sun is shining down on the pool full of kids splashing and shouting screams of

joy while the adults are laying poolside with their tall glasses of lemonade. Meanwhile, the stash of various firecrackers and fireworks is waiting to bit lit. It's the middle of summer the fourth of July and what are you going to bring to the party this year? I have a cool new homemade party favor idea for you- chocolate covered 4th of July rice crispy treats. Be the talk of the party and make a batch of these tasty snacks.

They are an upgrade from the traditional rice crispy treat squares that you are used to. They look a lot like decorated sugar cookies except they are covered in different colors white chocolate. I made mine in the shapes of the American flag, stars, eagles and the Statue of Liberty and created red, white and blue designs with the stars and stripes from the flag, 4th of July messages and other simple drawings. To add to the presentation of the eagle treats I lined their outer edges with gold sugar pearls. You can package each treat in cellophane bags and tie them off with ribbons or simply pack them in airtight plastic containers. How about lollipop rice crispy treats? Just pluck in lollipop sticks. Help the sticks adhere to the treats better by making a hole in the bottom of the treats and inserting melted white chocolate first, then immediately insert the sticks. The chocolate will set and will act as glue.

Interested in making a batch of 4th of July rice crispy treats? First start out with a standard rice crispy treats recipe. Press the prepared cereal mix in a baking sheet with sides then place the tray in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes.

Decorating with chocolate can be difficult since it dries fast and overheating it can ruin it, but I have a great system to make your life easier and to make your treats look great. I fill sauce bottles with melted chocolate and draw the designs out with them. To create multiple layers or to implore many different colors I decorate one section at a time, let the chocolate set and come back to do the next colored section or layer. I find it easier to draw the design on paper first to know what I will be creating before I begin. I also attach candy to the treats as decoration details like gold sugar pearls on borders. The trickiest part about working with chocolate is keeping it warm and melted. That's why I keep the bottles inside partially filled glasses of warm water. These glasses go in a large pot also partially filled with water which sits on an individual burner close to my work area. You should have an organized work station. All toppings should be poured in bowls and you should have empty baking sheets or cookie trays on which to place finished treats. You can place a treat on a saucer and decorate them one at a time or decorate many at a time simply by keeping them on the baking sheet and completing one entire step on all the treats then coming back to do the next step for all the treats.

Try it out. These are unique treats with some unique ingredients not seen on many rice crispy treats. I guarantee you many people will like them. Don't be surprised if some of your friends or relatives ask you to make them some.
