Internet marketing can be described in a number of different ways. The less modern of these would of course be the original conception of Internet marketing through the use of banners and /or websites themselves as pure marketing tools. Over the past few years though, this idea has developed and changed enormously.
The average Internet user has a lot of different marketing techniques at their disposal. It has become big business within the Internet, with some companies claiming incomes of $1000 per day. That's not an income to be joked about! But how true are these claims, and what exactly is the modern version of Internet marketing?
Internet marketing does at least one of three different things:
It creates clear communication between a company and an individual via the Internet The company's name, what it does, their product, providing information that a consumer would need.
It provides information for said company. Through the use of statistics (preferences and demographics), a company can focus on the hotspots, or where the sales are more likely to be.
Wider market base. This is achieved due to the expansion of public awareness and you can in turn use that publicity to help others while earning a profit from their gain.
So now that we know what Internet marketing does, the next obvious question is: How can we utilize the Internet to make money for us? Internet marketing would suggest that we become more familiar with all of the components that allow us to advertise through the internet.
The base component to everything about the Internet is a Website. In today's world it is a requirement that a company provide a website as a marketing tool. This opens the door for the obvious job: Website creation. Beyond Website creation there are also other tools that an entrepreneurial computer enthusiast could use in creating a marketing scheme.
The use of blogs, articles and electronic press releases; while including those with Search Engine Marketing (SEM), Search Engine Optimization (SEO), or buying charted listings with the bigger search engine companies, are all part and parcel of a marketing strategy over the Internet.
Another essential group of tools are the use of Email, and social networking sites like Twitter, My Space, and Facebook. These different methods offer perfect opportunities to market to a specific audience, or a larger general audience.
When you begin to understand the core components that are available to the average individual, you can see how the Internet could be a veritable goldmine for the entrepreneurial marketer. It is how the individual applies their knowledge and utilizes all these components and more, that will lead to the ultimate success or failure of a marketing campaign established from a home office.
