Hong Kong is a country that has seen its fair share of struggle and strife

Designed by the Architectural Service Department, the structure follows the Si He Yuan style a set of houses blending together around a common courtyard. The museum is dedicated to the history, culture and art of Hong Kong as well as its close neighbour, China. To properly depict this, the museum employs six permanent exhibitions as well as six temporary ones. The six permanent exhibitions include the New Territories Heritage Hall, Cantonese Opera Heritage Hall, Childrens Discovery Gallery, T.T.Tsui Gallery of Chinese Art, and the Chao Shao-an Gallery.

Through these, the visitor is taken through an interactive, compelling, thorough, and interesting account of Hong Kongs rise from a sleepy fishing community to the thriving hub of modernization it is now. At the same time it emphasises the sheer beauty and quality of the traditional arts of Hong Kong.

The temporary exhibitions frequently rotate so that there is always something new at the museum. Apart from these exhibition halls, the museum also has a theatre which is used for various seminars and performances.
