World of Warcraft universe was introduced in 1994 in the game "Warcraft: Orcs & Humans", but it went about 10 years before the game reached the great masses. Therefore, it is only in recent years that the problem of dependence on such games have emerged.

What is World of Warcraft (WoW)?

WoW is a so called MMORPG games - short for massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Here you create a character in the fantasy world of Azeroth, where you meet over 11 million other players (the number of subscribers in January 2008) that move around in the infinite, virtual landscape. Total turnover of such games for the billions of dollars, and the manufacturer Blizzard has no less than 1 200 employees working to develop the game.

Build your own character

In WoW, you build up your own character in a virtual fantasy world which is inhabited by two alliances in a perpetual struggle against each other. On the 'good' side is people, dwarves, night elves and gnomes, while the "evil" is populated by orcs, undead, minotaur (a mix between man and bull) and trolls. When you start the game, you can freely choose who you want to be.

To build up their characters by solving mission, called the raid, alone and in community with others. This could be to reclaim a stolen object, kill a certain number of monster of the same type, pick herbs, finding a missing person and bring this back to the family or defeat a boss (a main opponent).

60 levels

And you should very top, you have to spend countless hours in front of your computer. There are 60 levels in the game, which can move upward as you gather more points. As you rise through the ranks, the possibilities we have not had before. Access to new missions, new equipment and other things locked up - but the game is by no means the end if you reach the top level. To kill a dragon, for example, have between 40 and 50 players with top-level cooperation. There are always new challenges and quests to embark on, and this helps to make the game so compelling for many. It is simply infinite, unlike other traditional games, where the game has an ending.

Other games

Lineage, Final Fantasy XI and Anarchy Online is the second RPG that takes place online.

Lineage II is played out like WoW in a fantasy world including dragons and elves, but the game is divided into two sides. Anyone can be friends or enemies with everyone, and the players group themselves that they want to take control of the castle.

Anarchy Online is developed by Norwegian Funcom, and unplayable in a science fiction universe on the planet Rubi-Ka from the year 29475. Also here are two sides fighting against each other - but the AO has a neutral side.
