Having a low libido or low sex drive in women refers to a lack of interest in sexual relations. It is not unusual to experience a short-term decline in sexual desire at some point in your life, and many women do, but if it continues, it may present problems. The underlying reason for a decrease in sexual interest and activity, however, is not always obvious. A low libido can result from physical conditions (like illness or pregnancy), psychological issues (like stress or anxiety), or other factors. When a woman feels that her formerly normal sex drive has stalled or seems gone altogether, a medical or emotional problem may be at the root.

The signs of a low sex drive include less frequent sexual thoughts and fantasies, reduced sexual desire, reluctance to initiate sex, less frequent masturbation, lack of desire for sex when you've gone without sex for days, weeks, or months (depending on what was previously normal for you). When your libido is low, you can feel inhuman. While you can't always fix or figure out the problem on your own, many times you can. There are everyday things that you can do to increase your sex drive. Try the following eleven tips before seeing a licensed medical provider and see if you can elevate your own libido:

1. Put Out the Candles Scented candles can block hormone receptors in the body. Instead of lighting scented candles to up your libido, go without, or use essential oils.

2. Say Goodbye to Soy Research has shown that soy decreases libido by interfering with our natural hormones.

3. Don't use a laptop computer on your lap. The electromagnetic field and the radiation coming from the laptop should not be close to the sexual organs as they interfere with their function, including formation of hormones.

11. Get the TV out of the bedroom This is from the concepts of Feng Shui, an Asian concept of clearing energy in the home. The bedroom should be used for sex and sleep. Don't work in the bedroom, don't have a home office in there, and don't pull your laptop into bed. If it is possible, remove mirrors, dressers, and other excess furniture.

Many women experience a decrease in libido at some point in their lives. But trying the aforementioned tips can elevate your libido and put you back on track. However, if you've tried and failed to regain your sex drive, you may need to take a different tack. Other suggestions for you are to learn to communicate effectively with your partner to gain the most from your shared sexual experience. Consider counseling to help you and your partner talk through any sexual frustrations and open up to each another. Realize that exploring your own body is a healthy way for a woman to learn what truly arouses her. And if you face serious psychological issues, especially prior sexual abuse, it is critical to get help from a mental health professional.
