Horse Racing Handicapping Systems Start With Your Strengths
Horse Racing Handicapping Systems Start With Your Strengths
There are two ways to handicap horse races. First, you can try to make whatever system or method you use fit the race. Secondly, you can try to find a race that fits the system. An example is finding a race that fits a speed system. If you know that certain races are determined by the earliest speed in the race, then a system that accurately evaluates early speed is what you need.
Obviously, in the example above, trying to use a system that relied heavily on another handicapping factor that was as heavily weighted, just wouldn't be as accurate. So finding the right race to fit the system makes more sense. You can use several systems and use them to handicap a program. When you look for races that suit one of your methods, you will be much more likely to succeed and make money on your wagers.
Some people still try to make all races work with one system. That just doesn't work. The same is true of your personality type and whatever method you use to handicap the races. Let's face it, handicapping horse races is a cerebral game and an emotional game. You're up and down all the time and that can wear you out. The type of person you are determines how well you handle that and what your particular style may be.
Some people may be doubting what I am saying, but think about how badly you want to win and how badly losing makes you feel. It also affects your judgment, and let's face it, judgment is what handicapping is all about. Therefore, it only makes sense to figure out your own style and to find the right system.
For instance, you may be a person who can handle losing and going for long spells without a winner. You might do well with a spot play system where you wait for the right opportunity or maybe a system that picks the occasional longshot. Either method works best for a person who can handle long dry spells and playing the waiting game. On the other hand, if you happen to need more action because you are easily bored, a system that uses odds and the toteboard and requires constant vigilance may be more suitable.
The point is that this game is so hard to beat, you have to be mentally and emotionally at the top of your own form to win. Handicapping systems are nothing more than tools that you use. A mechanic wouldn't use a paintbrush and a carpenter has no use for an oven. They are tools for a certain job. You need the right tools that suit your method of playing the horses.
