Every project has an interesting story behind the larger the mission, the more complex the story. Built on the Mediterranean coast, Palm City is a large residential project in Libya. A coastal village to the west of Tripoli, the project's idea was to create a home away from home for the increasing number of expats working and living with their families in Libya.

At the moment the project is at an inspection stage, noting possible sea views and other natural features. An extensive market research is also being carried out. The design development focused on the needs of foreigners living in Libya, analysing and monitoring different living arrangements available for this niche market and engaging in several conversations with potential end users.

The whole residential site covers 171,000sqm, of which 98,000sqm is built area. There are over 400 units, designed to a high level of specification, able to accommodate around 2,000 residents.

The location in Libya also offers a number of environmental and climatic challenges, such as strong wind, sea spray and intense sunshine. The design considered, took into account and embraced all these factors and provided effective solutions to all details, ranging from dust-proof locks to fibreglass pergolas to withstand the ultra-violet rays and sand abrasion. Most of the materials needed to be imported from other countries and carefully selected to specifically meet the high standards that the place requires.

Among the important issues discussed during the design stage was the significance of creating meeting areas or public spaces for the residents. The project was designed to feel like a village, with community atmosphere. The public spaces offer meeting points throughout the site, thus encouraging a commune spirit of society. Moreover, the square acts like medina with its convenience shops and cafes.

It is forecasted that most of the units in the city will be leased by the end of the year. Well done to the young and passionate team that has carried forward commitment and enthusiasm for this project.
