Bollywood actor Tusshar Kapoor, is on cloud nine

. After the success of The Dirty Picture now he is all set with his next film Char Din Ki Chandini. In an exclusive interview Tusshar reveals about his chemistry with Kulraj

We are used to seeing you in comedic films and your character in The Dirty Picture was much more serious, was it difficult for you to get into character for your role in the film?

For me being an actor is the same, whether I am doing Bollywood or something serious, but yes this role is not one like I have done before, at least not so much, I did it once in Kalki and Lokhandwala but that was different. When I approach a role I take my character very seriously and the way I dealt with this character was no different.

How was it working with Kulraj?

It was fantastic working with her. She is a gem of a person. Besides, the entire film has a Punjabi tadka in it so it was fun working in the film.

Aside from this film there has always been a lot of buzz about your father being the legendary actor Jeetandar and your sister being the queen of Indian television, Ekta Kapoor. Do you feel that you are held to higher expectations because of your family?

Whatever I have achieved in the film industry as an actor has been my own thing, people have judged me for who I am. There wasn't too much comparison to what my father did and my sister is in television and that's completely different, but there is comparison to the fact that people say your dad is so successful, how are you doing? But they don't realize that my dad achieved his success in 35 years. And I still have many years to go in my career, so the success ratio does get compared. But it hasn't affected me that much, and my career is building up for me slowly and steadily and I have tried to build my identity away from my family. I still have a long way to go. It seems often these comparisons will end up making you feel low. So I feel it's better to choose your own way.

You are doing well now but your career did start off with some box-office failures. How did you deal with it?

(Smiles) I usually move on because I know when the film is bad, what hurts is when the film is good but it doesn't get promoted enough, also during my worst phases when my films weren't' doing well I was always still getting work. When I was rock bottom I still had stuff coming my way, don't know how that happened! It's always been steady and since things have gotten better, especially since the Golmaal series so things are going well.

I want to hear the public's view on me doing diverse roles. Especially the audiences have loved me in Golmaal. I want to keep that character alive as much as possible. So it's my duty to deliver some incredible performances and keep going. The best is yet to come.

A lot of actors such as Bipasha Basu are doing international projects; is this something you would get into too?

I would love to, but I'm not aiming to get into international films but I am open to other options. Some people are like I want to get out of Bombay and move to the West but essentially I am a Bollywood actor and that's my base. I want to make it big in Bollywood first. Then let's see if things fall in place then might be I can bag some Hollywood films in near future. But right now it's only Bollywood for me.

I'm single and ready to mingle (Laughs).
