A Visit to Unforgettable Marrakech

Looking to get away from it all for Christmas and get a bit of sun while doing so? Well, Marrakech is a wonderful place to visit for the winter season, is easy to get to, is a short flight and also offers a great view of both Africa and the Islamic world with a hotel deal.

The city is situated in Morocco on the North West coast of Africa, directly below Spain and offers sun, diversity and a change of pace for the Christmas or the winter period. The country is famed for its sun, markets and bazaars and its way of life.

Getting to Marrakech is quite easy and there are a number of airports and flights from UK and Irish Airports. As the area is not much further than the south of Spain it doesn't take much longer to get to than it would a normal flight to Spain and so is as suitable for short breaks as it is for long ones, making it a great place for hotel deals.

The city itself is a mixture of mopeds, mules and Mercedes and offers a view of a world very different in many ways to the one we are used to. Snake charmers still sit aside the streets and there are a number of tombs, souks, baths and other exiting things to see. As it is a Muslim country, Morocco also has a number of fantastic Mosques, which offer a really great experience for the traveller.

The city also lays at the foot of the Atlas Mountains. The city was once a fortified one and there are the remains of the old town walls still visible. This old town area, known as the medina, still offers fantastic experiences and the underground tunnels in the area are a must see. The Koutoubia Mosque is also a must see if you get a hotel deal to the area. The 12th century mosque is certainly worth vieing and is still an impressive structure to this day.

The city also has one of the busiest market squares in all of Africa within it. The souks in the area are fantastic and offer some great chances to see the Moroccan way of life, get some great hotel deals on some beautiful goods and also practice your bartering skills - which is essential before coming. There is also a range of entertainment and acrobats, jugglers and a number of other forms of entertainers litter the square - of course like the X-Factor only some are good. The food stalls are also worth trying and Moroccan food offers some very tasty options, from Tajine to other foods, the use of spices in Moroccan foods is well renowned.

The L'atelier Faim d'Epices is a must do if staying in the city on a hotel deal and allows you to learn how to cook in a Moroccan style. The cooking class begins at 9:30am in the morning with a pick up from wherever you are staying. You will learn to make local salads, breakfasts and dinners from two chefs. The meals change every day and so it is ideal for those who come back to the country. All meals are then eaten in the grove beside the olive trees when ready - a very enjoyable experience.

Hotel deals to Marrakech are very common and range from the more rough and ready, to a luxury deal, where you get everything inclusive and are treated like royalty. The city is rich with culture and easy to get to. It is also possible to easily get to the area of Casablanca from the city - something movie goers may wish to do. However, there is little here and only a few references to the Humphrey Bogart film, which may disappoint some.

A number of prominent people live in the city also. Designers Yves StLaurent and Jean Paul Gaultier both live in Marrakech, as do a number of famous Spanish novelists, artists and musicians. The areas colour, accessibility and lifestyle are attractive to many westerners. It has also been common with many famous rock stars such as Jimi Hendrix among others.
