. When the Hershey Company opened its doors, the owner of the company decided that he wanted to develop a leisure park for the employees. That park opened to employees in 1905. It included landscaped gardens, trails, and scenic water views. In 1908, a trolley and a carousel became the first two rides for employees to enjoy. A bandstand, picnic shelters, and other amenities made this a great place for Hershey employee families to enjoy. The company continued to expand the park each year. Hotels around Hershey Park did not start appearing at this point.

The 1920s made a big impact on Hershey Park. At this time, the first roller coaster came to the park. It was the Wild Cat. This wooden roller coaster became a huge attraction for the park. Additional rides came into the park including bumper cars and a water flume ride. This decade saw the emergence of this local park into something people from the entire region would come and enjoy. The park saw more rides and upgrades happen through the 1920s and 1930s. Even with the economic downturn of the Depression, many people still came to get away at the park. It was in this time that hotels around Hershey Park began to emerge.

After World War II, Milton Hershey wanted to revitalize the park. The Wildcat had declined during the war due to timber supply issues. Instead of redoing the roller coaster, the decision was made to replace it. In 1946, the new Comet opened up for riders. Around this same time, a new kiddie ride section opened with rides sized for children. This marked a major expansion for the park. This expansion continued into the 1950s. The park began to decline in the 1960s due to lower ridership and bad management. The hotels around Hershey Park still provided a great place to stay.

In the 1970s, Hershey Park underwent a huge transformation. The first major change was making it a gated amusement park with a single entry price. Locations of major rides were relocated and new sections of the park began to open. New roller coasters and thrill rides made it a family destination. The growth of the park continues through today.
