Hotelzone Hotel - Good Hotel Without Much Designs

Before we left Sydney in Australia for Finland we has emailed ahead for a quiet room on arrival

. Further we had requested the Best Western hotel management at Helsinki about our late arrival in the evening. However, on reaching the hotel we were given a room adjacent to the reception and it was not quiet at all. The manager claimed that it would be but it was not.

The room was noisy and it was not only the noise from the neighbor but also from around the reception that was creating problem for us. An extra bed was also erected in the room that did not cater to our requests. However, the silver lining was the extremely friendly and accommodating staff in the hotel including the manager. An immediate replacement room that was much more suitable and quieter was arranged for us.

Despite the fact that we should not have faced such problems despite our requests to the Best Western hotel management but the solution offered was good. At least we did not have to spoil our first night of sleep in Helsinki.

If you are thinking about ease of reaching the hotel, then we can only say that the taxi fare was quite affordable in comparison to our own Paris taxis. Location wise also the hotel was at a quieter place and thus gave us the best benefits of quiet environment. I think, artists, painters, writers, and people on business endeavors may like the place very well due to the quiet atmosphere.

Hotelzone Katajanokka hotel in Helsinki was converted into a hotel from one of the oldest prisons. Location is excellent and it barely takes a five minute walk from the sea front and ten minutes for reaching there from the city center. Environment is pleasantly quiet at the hotel.

One of the best things for matka (or travel as it is expressed in the language of Finland) in the city is that once we stepped out of the hotel, we found that trams are available for going anywhere in the city. Frequency of the tram service is particularly good. Services start early in the morning and continue till 2-3 A.M, a feature we cannot think of in our cities like Mumbai, Calcutta, Delhi, or Chennai.

The hotel itself is a huge building having red brick walls. Something that will attract every visitor is the souvenirs for sale displayed in the lobby of the hotel. These include handcuffs, tees of the prisoners, key chains with birdies those are wearing jail clothes. You pay five euro for these jailbirds. Much other fun stuff is also available in the souvenir shop giving you the feeling of prison. Amazing! You don't have to go for a matka to get such feeling. You get it at the hotel itself.

Reception in the hotel is quite friendly and it allows early check in. We reached there by 8 A.M. However, one thing that is missing is the complimentary buffet breakfast when you check in early. It could be one of the features of Rovaniemi but not here. Room windows have also be retained just like the prison cell. Even though a prison, it is a likable one.
