Basketball

Basketball in the early years was not considered to be an ideal sports for women and hence its name was then changed to netball. But as time passed, netball was separated from basketball. Swimming

Earlier swimming was considered to be a fun and recreational activity for women. It was only in 1912 when women's swimming came into picture as a sports in the Olympic games. In the present scenario there is merely any country which is not involved in the women's swimming sports.

Cricket

Cricket is a favorite game of many people. Women's cricket was started in the year 1745 and became popular later on. In 1973, the first Women's Cricket World Cup was played in England. In the year 2004, women's Twenty20 cricket was introduced in international cricket.

In the recent years, football has evolved to become one of the most popular women's sports. Now a days, women football is played in many countries and is a popular national sport among women. Many countries also host women world cup football matches. The first women's world cup was played in the year 1991, in China and was won by USA. American football has also become a popular women's sports in the US.

Tennis

Tennis is one of the most popular games played by women. The most prestigious championship in tennis is the Grand Slam tournament, which consists of four tournaments namely the Australian Open, US Open tennis, French Open and Wimbledon. Some of the star players of women tennis are Martina Navratilova, Steffi Graf, Martina Hingis, Venus and Serena Williams Sisters, etc.

Badminton

Badminton originated in India when it was under the British rule. The first international women badminton championship, the Uber Cup was held in the year 1956 -1957. Badminton was included in the Olympic games, in 1992 and The Badminton World Federation (BWF) is an international governing body that works for the promotion of this game. The BWF also sets the standard rules and regulations for badminton. Zhang Ning, Saina Nehwal and Xie Xingfang etc. are some of the most famous women badminton players who are known for their excellent skills in this game.
