The Houston Dynamo clinched a playoff berth, as the Dynamo settled for a 1-1 draw against the Kansas City Wizards

. Luis Angel Landin's goal gave Houston a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute, but Kansas City's Zoltan Hercegfalvi scored in the 73rd minute against a team that was down to 10 men. Get Houston Dynamo playoff tickets and see Landin score a goal.

Houston coach Dominic Kinnear told the press that his club earned the point. The coach continued to say that he was extremely happy to make the playoffs. Kinnear recognized it was a tough match and said playing with a man down really hurt Houston. Although the coach was obviously concerned, his team was able to come away with a tie even though they were playing down a man for 70 minutes. He said, "It was a great effort."

Houston (12-8-8) had the opportunity to take sole possession of the top spot in the West. Instead, the Dynamo tied Los Angeles for the lead with 44 points. Both teams have a pair of games left, and the Dynamo are scheduled to play the Galaxy in Houston on October 18. Houston wrapped up a spot in the postseason for the fourth time since they moved from San Jose. The Wizards (8-11-8) remained in sixth place in the East, six points out of a playoff spot after increasing its unbeaten streak to four games (2-0-2). Kansas City's Davy Arnaud said his club knew what was at stake coming into the game. The midfielder stated that three points would have been nice, but noted that his club has three games left.

Houston played a man down starting in the 18th minute when Cam Weaver picked up a red card for a hard tackle from behind. Eight minutes later, however, Landin registered his first MLS goal off Brian Mullan's cross. Landin said it was a nice goal, and he hopes there are plenty of goals to come. The forward mentioned it was difficult to play against an opponent fighting to get into the playoffs. He gave the Wizards' defenders a lot of credit for being very physical throughout the match, especially when the Dynamo went down a man.

Houston played without leading goal-scorer Brian Ching, who was serving a one-game suspension. The Wizards tied the game when Hercegfalvi took a pass from Claudio Lopez and fired a shot from behind Houston's backline on the right box. The ball deflected off goalkeeper Pat Onstad and went into the right side of the net for his first MLS goal.

After the game, Arnaud gave his opinion. He said the Wizards wanted to get three points. The midfielder explained that his club went up a man early in the game and did not push the game like they should have to get a goal. Arnaud gave credit to Houston's defenders, saying it was "tough to break them down at times." Kansas City did get a goal, but couldn't get the second one to win the game. Kevin Hartman made three saves for the Wizards, who desperately need to win and get some help to make the playoffs.
