Houston Texans Tickets - Texans Impress In Preseason Debut Despite Loss

The preseason records of each team mean very little

. In fact, when the Detroit Lions set a record for having the first 0-16 season in NFL history in 2008, they had a record of 4-0 in the preseason. Because of this, it is worth analyzing more than just the final score of each team's preseason matchup. The Houston Texans kicked off their preseason on Saturday, Aug. 14 with an away game against the Arizona Cardinals and lost 19-16. Despite the loss, the outing proved promising for the rest of the season. Houston Texans tickets are the best way to be a part of this season's action.

The starters were only active for the first part of the game, but Houston's frontline shined during their first game. Quarterback Matt Schaub was five of six for 78 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. His touchdown came on a 44-yard pass to wide receiver Andre Johnson in the first quarter. Prior to the touchdown, the Texans had also scored a field goal on a 31-yard kick by Kris Brown. The Texans finished the first half with a 24-yard field goal by Neil Rackers.

Perhaps even more impressive than the Texans' offense in the first half was the effort of Houston's defensive unit. The defense held the Cardinals to three-and-out on their first possession. On the next possession, the Cardinals marched down the field into field goal range, but the Texans made sure they had to attempt a long field goal-50 yards-which kicker Jay Feely missed. The Texans gave up a first down during the Cardinals' first possession of the second quarter, but then they stopped the Cardinals and forced a punt. On the Cardinals' next possession, the Texans' defense came through in a big way when safety Troy Nolan intercepted a pass from Derek Anderson. Every one of the Cardinals' points came in the fourth quarter.

It wasn't all good news for the Cardinals in their first preseason outing, though. Rookie running back Ben Tate suffered an ankle injury during the game, which proved to be a break that will require surgery. The team hasn't confirmed how long the recovery will take, but it is unlikely Tate will recover anytime soon. The team has a fight for the starting running back spot, and Jeremiah Johnson, Adrian Foster and Steve Slaton look to be the top prospects at the position. Against the Cardinals, Johnson led the team with five carries for 33 yards. Foster had four carries for 31 yards and Slaton had 10 carries for 22 yards.

Even though the preseason has already started, the Texans may not be done beefing up their roster. According to NFL.com, the Texans have expressed interest in defensive end/linebacker Aaron Schobel, who was released by the Buffalo Bills recently. Schobel took much of the offseason deciding whether or not to retire. He has been with the Bills since he entered the league in 2001. In his career, he has tallied 483 tackles, 78 sacks, 26 passes defended, three interceptions and 19 forced fumbles.
