How Biofeedback Therapy Can Ease Your Symptoms Of Anxiety

Biofeedback therapy came onto the scene back in the 1960s when hippies sat on flowery cushions in the lotus position, chanting one-syllable tones

. Almost everyone thought they were on some drug-induced ride. In many cases, they weren't wrong.

Yet their actions were quite effective as a way to escape the stresses of growing into an adult world overrun by stress and anxiety. They felt anxious and chose meditation as a way to escape.

That was just the beginning. Today, biofeedback therapy is very effective to ease the symptoms of anxiety.

The key to curing anxiety naturally involves finding a way to quiet your mind and, ultimately, your body. One major symptom is the racing mind that sends you into chaos with rapid heartbeats, sweating, shaking, and an unexplained fear that you are going to die or at the very least, have a heart attack.

Fortunately, anxiety does not kill people unless you allow it to continue for a sustained period of time. That's why it is so important to stop the symptoms as quickly as possible.

That's where biofeedback comes in. When the hippies chanted and focused their minds, in a sense they were hypnotizing themselves into a state of relaxation. The chanting created the peaceful state of mind because it helped to block those frenzied thoughts associated with an anxiety attack.

It's a bit similar to biofeedback. If you are unfamiliar with how this works, here's a brief look.

This type of therapy requires you to attach a type of monitoring device to your finger. It is usually a small (painless) electrode that captures your heart rate, perspiration and body temperature. When you can see how your body is operating, you can work on slowing it down.

All you do is focus on the monitor that shows your current condition. Turn your attention to slowing your thoughts and your body so that the graph drops to a more relaxed reading.

Researchers have done a lot studies on this type of treatment to ease the symptoms of anxiety, but it also can be highly effective simply to help you to relax after a long, stressful day.

The great news is that it does not involve taking drugs or undergoing psychotherapy or hypnosis to get the desired results. And it does not have any bad side effects. You simply use your mind to control how your body reacts. The result is a relaxed mind and body. In this state, you are better able to think through whatever is causing you to be stressed and anxious.

When you discover how effectively biofeedback therapy can ease the symptoms of anxiety, that much-desired anxiety cure will be at your fingertips.
