YouTube is the largest entertainment site on the internet and the sixth largest internet destination worldwide, with 5.3 billion page views by 80.7 million unique visitors per month. The average American user spends more than 5 hours a month watching online videos and 54 minutes a month on YouTube.

So how do you ride this wave? Think about recreating the advantages of a bricks and mortar store through video.

Use video to sell your products. What would your sales person say to a customer who walked through the front door? Anticipate the customers questions or needs then make a video that addresses those needs. If you sell sweaters from Central American countries, show the sweaters, describe how they are made, talk about washability, explain that they tend to run a bit small (or large) in the sizing or explain how the sizing compares to sizing in your country. Have a model available to try on the sweater, show it from all angles. You could even script an actual sale situation with a customer asking questions and a sales person responding, ending of course, with a sale!


Instructional Videos

Similar to the sales video but more educational, if you have a product that needs some instruction, make a video to do that. Show how to put the batteries into a product, how to cut hair with your special electric shears, how to locate metal underground with your metal detector. Give viewers special tips, information that a helpful sales person might impart such as, I tend to turn my sweaters inside out before I put them in the wash to protect the hand embroidery.

When you have a video that works for you, host it on YouTube with a link back to your site and take advantage of the 80.7 million monthly viewers.
