How Christmas Is Celebrated All Over The World
Christmas is the main and most important religious festival of of the Christians
. It is celebrated on the occasion of the birthday of Jesus Christ on 25th December. Though there are several conflicts about the actual birth date of Jesus, the Western Christian Church has recognized the day 25th December as Christmas.
Although it is a religious festival of the Christians, a large number of non-Christians around the world celebrate this day. It is a national holiday in many nations. Not only is it a cheerful occasion for billions of people all over the world, but it is also a golden opportunity for businessmen and retailers who make a good profit during this time. There are many customs and different ways to celebrate this festival.
Celebration of Christmas for Christians includes a lot of traditions and customs. Carol, which is a community folk song, is actually sung in the churches, homes, parties and also in restaurants. Exchange of gifts and cards is an important part of the celebration which young children enjoy the most.
The churches and homes are decorated with Xmas trees, lights, candles, bells, and many other things. Green and red are the main colors used in decoration as they have a lot of significance. White, gold and silver are also used. The birth history, life history and holy preaching of Jesus Christ are described at the churches. People light candles to imply that they think Jesus to be the source of light in this world.
People celebrate this festival on the roads too, with hanging lights and by playing loud music.
This festival is closely associated with the concept of Santa Clause. Santa Claus or Saint Nicholus is popular among children because they believe that Santa brings gifts for them and grants their wishes. The image of Santa Claus is that of a fat old man with a white bread, he is dressed in a red cap and red dress which are bordered with white fur.
Any festival in any part of the world remains incomplete without some special food.
Christmas is not an exception. According to the tradition a special Christian family meal is prepared on this day which includes goose, meat, vegetables, potato, gravy, soup, stew etc. There are some special deserts prepared on this festive day like pudding, mince pies, fruit cake and more. In East Europe fish is a must. In some places eating special Xmas cake is also associated with this festival.
To celebrate this festival people often throw parties where they invite their near and dear ones. Generally organizations, companies, schools, churches arrange the Xmas parties. Parties are organized for both children and adults. For childrens parties simple games are included like, find the Xmas tree game, gift wrap game etc. Chocolates and gifts are distributed among the children. Parties for young people and adults include fun games, singing and dancing programs, dinner etc.
Christmas is a big bang celebration for all Christians.
