How Did Infiniti Do In 2009

Infiniti 2009 models received an initial red carpet welcome. The Infiniti G37 gleaned one of Consumer Report's Top Picks based on performance, reliability and safety. The FX luxury crossover claimed the most sales as related to the previous year's transactions. Edmunds selected the best-selling G37 for Best Sedan Under $35,000. After remedying a few minor automotive nits from recent years, the Infiniti full-size luxury SUV QX56 became a cult favorite among opulent customers.

Despite the few highlights, the entire brand has lagged as economical vehicles swept the market. The Infiniti M-model experienced some state-side recalls and endured a 45.6% decrease from 2008's sales.

Infiniti's strong professional reputation did not lead to mounting sales. Except for February (10.7% increase) and December (19.5% increase), all months experienced a significant decrease in sales as compared to 2008. The worst month was April, down 48.3%, while the best time was December with a 19.5% increase. Average decrease was 19.4% and unit sales ranged between four and eight thousand. Although Nissan North America also consistently logged failing figures, Infiniti's poorer performance dragged down the average success of its parent corporation.

As owned by Nissan Motor Company, Ltd., Infiniti does not own publicly traded stocks. Its owning company Nissan, with the stock ticker of NSANY on the NASDAQ, began 2009 at a ten-year low in volume trading at a meager estimated $6 a share. It concluded 2009 at approximately $17 a share, which was more than a 200% increase but still considerably lower than the previous eight years. It ended the year with a net loss of 2,316 (in millions) dollars.

2010 has shown signs of taking Infiniti beyond its previous statistics. Hopefully Infiniti's days have not ended here.
