How Did Nail Polish Develop?

Personally, I love nail polish very much as it makes my nails and hands attractive and perfect

. I have never imagined that nail polish has been invented for thousands of year. It is also a luxury privileged to the royal and noble families. Luckily, nail polish has become popular and inexpensive now that most women can afford. Otherwise, we will just lose an important part of our beauty experience.

Nail polish had been popular since ancient time in many different counties like India, Rome and Peru. There were not many choices of color to choose and the most popular one was red. People did not paint nail polish during daily life but only during special events like wedding. Some of them might paint their traditional and auspicious symbols like eagles on their nails.

Cosmetics were common in ancient Egypt as you can probably notice different kinds of beauty products like eyeliners, mascaras as well as nail polishes on pictures of ancient Egyptian. In the old days, only women from royal family were allowed to use red nail polish. Ordinary people who wished to use nail polish had to pick light colors. For royal family, nail polish was painted by technicians who made the polish more long lasting with Henna and blood.

Nail polish was also popular in the eastern countries like China. In Zhou Dynasty, around 1045-256 BC, people did not have nail polish. Royal family use false nails to make their nails look long and nice. These false nails were valuable as they were made of gold, silver and jewelries. Nail polish was actually invented in China in the Ming Dynasty, around 1368-1644 with flowers, egg white and wax.

While majority of nail polishes were made from natural ingredients by individual women for their own use, a first commercial and public nail polish was introduced by Revlon in 1920. This first generation of nail polish was invented by a makeup artist Michelle Menard working for Revlon. She took the idea from car painting and applied it on nail polish.

Have you heard for peel off nail polish or the famous brand for peel off nail polish, Minx? In fact, peel off nail polish was not invented by Minx but Tinkerbell in 1980. Tinkerbell's Bo-Po brush on peel off nail polish was a revolutionary product at that time as women did not need chemical remover anymore. This peel off nail polish became a must-have product for women in 1980.

The technology of nail polish keeps improving from day to day. Now, you can even find the mood changing nail polish in the market. The color of this nail polish, after painted on your nails, changes from time to time according to your mood and body heat! What a wonderful product for women!
