In order to acquire degrees one needs to take admission to a school, college or university. Even a decade ago we could not think beyond formal education. The concept of formal education encompasses a brick and mortar institution, a strict time table, face to face interaction between teachers and learners. But with progress in technology, education has been treading along an informal route. It is no longer restricted by old concepts of attending classes in person. Especially professionals have embraced this alternate mode of education with open arms.

Informal education, like its formal counterpart, has a vast horizon. Trinidad may be a small country but it has taken a big decision to open the doors of distance education to the aspiring learners. Who is not aware of the benefit of adding an extra degree to the resume in order to increase the prospect of bagging a job and prosperity in one"s career? Persons, who could not opt for the regular programs due to poor marks in previous exams, can also further their studies by registering their names in such programs. This alternate mode of education has also become favorite with office goers since, such programs allow them to juggle time between profession and education with ease and without hazards. Indubitably, distance learning in Trinidad has taken education to a new height.

There is almost a plethora of courses on offer in distance learning mode by different institutions. Distance learning curriculum is harnessed with modern technique in keeping with emerging needs of the job industry. Though in initial stage, it did not have much appeal to employers, but slowly it garnered appreciation from them. A great number of employees no longer perceive it inferior to regular educational programs.
