How Do Cell Phones Work?

Cell phones, also known as mobile phones, are the most popular and common form of communication devices all over the world

.

They have taken the concept of communication to a whole new level. Today you won't find a person who doesn't own a cell phone or has not used a cell phone in his or her life. No one can guess how many mobile phones are there in the market but some people say that there is currently one mobile phone for every six people on this planet. In fact many people carry not one but multiple cell phones at a time. Cell phone has become a must have for today's people and has become the most loved and most used accessory these days. But have you ever wondered how do cell phones work. How our voice and data are received by the person on the other side of the call. How do cell phone companies achieve such voice clarity even on international calls?

Here is the answer. Cell phones use wireless technology to transmit voice and data. The steps followed are:

Every mobile phone has a speaker and a microphone. When you dial a number and make a call the things you speak are picked up by the phone's microphone. The microphone picks the voice and converts it into pulsating electric signals.

These electric signals are then converted into a bunch of numbers which are then transmitted via a radio wave with the help of antenna present inside the mobile phones.

These radio waves then travel through the atmosphere at very high speed until they are caught by the nearest cell phone tower also called the cell phone mast. These towers are usually mounted on top of buildings so that they can easily catch and forward the radio waves.

Now the calls take different routes depending on the number they are going to. Suppose if the destination number belongs to the same network then the radio waves are delivered to the destination via a chain of connected cell phone towers but if the destination number belongs to a different network then it follows a longer path. In this case after the signal has been picked up by the nearest cell phone tower they are sent to the exchange office from where they are routed to the destination.

After the radio waves reach the destination cell phone they are captured again by the antenna and converted into numbers then signals and are then heard as voice signals through the speaker. Here is the answer to your question "How do cell phones work".
