How Do Jet Engines Work?

A Jet Engine is basically constructed of major four parts and these are termed as the compression

, the combustion, the intake and the exhaust. The intake part occurs at the front of the jet engine through an intake nacelle.

Air blows off into the nacelle and compresses by striking the blades present in the compressor which further turns them on and draw more and more air into the narrower blades and compresses the air which flows inside. At the intake part of jet engine set of turbine blades are present which are fashioned in a form to draw the air inside. Due to the increase of blades at the pitch the air which is drawn inside gets compressed and pressurized after travelling through the intake turbine blades.

Jet engines work in a complex manner. The highly compressed air which has been drawn inside by the blades further passes to the next chamber which carries the fuel injected and burned into it. The passage of compressed air through this chamber works like a catalyst and provides oxygen to the burning fuel. A Jet engine, in simple terms, works by taking air inside through the intake part and after this, exhaling it more forcefully through the exhaust part. After this, the pressurized air gets mixed with the fuel and burns into combustion part in the center of the assembly and the air is then expelled out of the exhaust part of the Jet engine.

The fuel gets ignited not through a timely ignition sequence like in internal combustion engine of a piston but gets ignited through a continual burning process which compresses the flow of air through the chamber and acts as a catalyst enabling the process of burning of fuel. This is the reason why Jet engines burn fuel lower as compared to cars and other airplanes driven by radial propellant. After the mixing of air and fuel the ignition of resultant expandable gases drives the exhaust turbines which further expels out the gases out of the rear of turbo and creating thrust in a Jet engine. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction as stated by Newton plays a crucial act in the Jet engines i.e. when the fuel gets heated up the air which expands also gets forced out and expelled out of the Jet engine moving it forwards i.e. in opposite direction. So this is the way how a Jet Engine works.
